TWITTER CHAT FOR BLOGGERS

Twitter chats for bloggers

Hi everyone! I hope you're all well and enjoying the Easter bank holiday!

This post is all about, as you might've guessed, a new Twitter chat for all bloggers

A few months ago, when introducing the new part of #TakeBackWhatsYours campaign, I decided it would be so much fun to start a new Twitter chat for it. It's another way for us all to connect, chat and share experiences and generally help us all feel great, empowered and motivated which is the main message of my campaign. I've hosted Twitter chats in the past & really enjoyed it, so I thought to myself, why not start one for #TakeBackWhatsYours?

Some topics which will be covered each week are as follows;
  • Self-esteem and low confidence
  • Setting goals and learning how to achieve them
  • Turning dreams into reality
  • Taking back your life & gaining control
  • Anxiety
  • Motivation
  • Diabetes & other medical problems
  • Health, fitness & food
  • School/University/Careers
  • Blogging, blog tips, SEO, traffic, engagement, events, working with brands
  • Beauty/fashion/lifestyle/interior/food/travel/books/tv/films

I would love for you to also tweet me topic requests to get us going and for us to have a good few weeks of chat topics lined up so we all know what's going on and what to expect!

The hashtag will be '#TBWY' instead of #TakeBackWhatsYours (for character restrictions) and the Twitter account questions will be asked from @TBWYCampaign

I'm still a little bit unsure of what day to definitely hold the chat because there are quite a few that go on and I want to make sure it fits in best around the other chats! Please tweet me day and time suggestions and I'll decide for sure ASAP - I was thinking possibly a Friday/Saturday/Sunday evening around 9pm! I will update you all as soon as I have set a day for sure so keep an eye on @ChloesConcept, @TBWYCampaign and here because I'll be posting about it on all three!

I love Twitter chats but I want this one to be slightly different. For example, at the beginning of the chat, the first question I might ask could be for you all to tweet a picture of your favourite quote, or of a quote you're loving at the moment. This will be just to kick things off and get everyone feeling hopeful, motivated and inspired!

If you'd be interested in "tuning in" for this #TBWY chat, please let me know so I know how many would be keen for this and I'll get to work straight away as I'm really excited to get this going!

BE PART OF THE BLOGGING MOVEMENT IN 2015 - TAKE BACK WHAT'S YOURS

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to write a post thanking everyone who has taken part in Take Back What's Yours - New Year Challenge so far! Your support has been so overwhelming and amazing, I really can't believe it!

It makes me so incredibly happy to see us bloggers pulling together to write posts for this challenge, something which is one of my main aims of this campaign; for us all to pull together and make a difference...and that is happening!

I love reading through everyone's posts, the comments, emails, tweets...everything! I am so appreciative of the huge amount of support people are showing toward this campaign, so thank you so, so much.

This is just a little post to keep you updated, but coming this weekend is a big post which features everyone's #TakeBackWhatsYours blog post links and photos! I can't wait to share it with you all! I'll keep updating this post every time someone uploads a new post or picture so you'll all be in it!

Please remember that this is not just a regular New Year's resolution that you give up after 5 minutes (like I usually do!). No, this is a lifetime commitment! I'll be doing posts throughout the year with this challenge, focusing on the next part of the campaign which will be posting updates on how you are getting on with your resolutions! More information on that to come in the near future though!

I tag you ALL to get involved with this campaign! If you are unsure about what it entails, you can have a look at this post which tells you everything you need to know about how you can get involved with the big blogging movement in 2015!

If you aren't a blogger - don't worry! If you have Twitter or Instagram, upload your photo with your poster (more info on this in the post linked above!) and make sure to include  #TakeBackWhatsYours!

I'll be constantly uploading posts with everyone's photos, blog posts and more so keep using this hashtag and also tag me @ChloesConcept on both Twitter and Instagram!

ALSO before I go, keep an eye on #TakeBackWhatsYours on Twitter for updates! I'm in the process of making a separate Twitter account for this campaign, what do you guys think? Would this be more helpful?

Let's do this!

P.s, this is also my 100th post!

Love,

Chloe x

TAKE BACK WHAT'S YOURS - NEW YEAR CAMPAIGN CHALLENGE

CALLING ALL BLOGGERS

As 2014 is coming to an end and 2015 dawns upon us, it isn't unusual to make those predictable New Year's resolutions.

In the spirit of my campaign 'Take Back What's Yours' which you can find more information on here; I want to change the way we see New Year resolutions so that we can use them to benefit our whole life, not just for a couple of months, for example when we say "I will join a gym!"

As you probably know, in recent months...weeks even, bloggers and YouTubers have come under fire by the media for different reasons... I feel like the heart of blogging is taking a downward turn. We have such a huge opportunity to shape a world we want to live in, yet the blogging world isn't being used to its full potential.

I felt like it would be a wonderful time to pull together and boost the message of this campaign in time for the New Year - as I said, many make New Year resolutions, so why not influence people to make their resolution to take back what once belonged to them... maybe their confidence, maybe their control or even their happiness due to whatever situation has made them lack that ability.

This is a lifelong commitment, if you want to change the way you feel about yourself, or you want to act upon the message of this campaign and 'Take Back What's Yours', when better to do that than the start of a new year... This is not one of those "New Year, New Me" unrealistic resolutions. When I say "New Year, New You", I genuinely mean it.

You probably know by now that I have so much belief and motivation in how we can change the world as cheesy as it sounds but we can! We can change how people are impacted by bullying, lack of self-esteem, confidence, anxiety, diabetes and much, much more. I want this campaign's challenge to be spread across the internet as much as possible. How amazing would it be for everyone to be taking part in this challenge, changing the world whilst they're at it!?

I really do urge you to get involved with this campaign and this challenge. If we all get involved and UNITE, we can make a huge difference. If you can do this, please use the hashtag #TakeBackWhatsYours and feel free to tag me in it: @ChloesConcept :)

If you would be so kind as to get involved, all I ask you to do is this:

  • Write a blog post talking about this campaign, the message it contains and why you are taking part
  • What Take Back What's Yours - New Year Resolution you are going to set yourself
  • Tag 10 bloggers to take part
  • Let me know if you're taking part by using the hashtag on Twitter #TakeBackWhatsYours - Also tag either @ChloesConcept or @TBWYCampaign so I can retweet!!
  • If you can - include a photo of yourself with a handmade poster (doesn't have to be artistic!) with the words:
"TAKE BACK WHAT'S YOURS -
MAKE YOUR NEW YEARS RESOLUTION TO TAKE BACK WHAT BELONGS TO YOU. #TakeBackWhatsYours
In 2015, I'm taking back: *i.e., "my confidence"

  • With that photo, you can upload it with a message on my Tumblr site. I want to get as many photos of people as possible so that we can put faces to names and bring a sense of reality to this campaign! This is the link OR you can upload it to your Instagram site (if that's more convenient to you!) but make sure you use the #TakeBackWhatsYours so I can see it and save it so I can upload it to a big post with everyone's picture!
  • There is no set deadline - just as soon as you can write the post, the better, to get the message spread!
  • Let's get #TakeBackWhatsYours trending and let the world know we're here to make a difference.

One more thing:

PLEASE share this with anyone and everyone you know; friends, family, acquaintances, work friends, school friends... anyone and everyone! The more people who know about it, the better. Please share it, tweet it, Facebook it, YouTube it, Instagram it, pin it, blog it... you name it, please do it!

I'll be print screening everyone's posts, tweets, photos...everything! I'll be constantly putting them into posts and including everyone's links and social media sites so be sure to leave your links and names so I can do that for you!

I thank you all SO much for taking the time to read this post and if you do decide to take part (which I really hope you do!) thank you! I really do appreciate all of the support I have had in 2014 regarding this campaign. It means so much to me when I get emails from people saying how they want to be involved or just generally emailing me to make friends and tell me how it has helped them! I love getting to know you all so please don't hesitate to write to me or get in touch - I'll leave all of my links below!

Finally, I hope you all have a wonderful and peaceful Christmas and New Year with your families and friends! Thank you for a great and supportive year and I look forward to continuing on with my campaign in 2015! See you all then!

Love,

Chloe x

An Inspirational Interview with Lucy Kay from Britain's Got Talent: Exclusive!

Lucy Kay

A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to talk to Lucy all about her experience with bullying and how she managed to overcome it and achieve her dreams. Lucy impressed and made an emotional connection with the Britain's Got Talent audience, coming runner up earlier this year. Lucy's magical, operatic style voice and her positive attitude to life had her signed to Sony Classical, her debut album 'Fantasia' released in September and touring next year with Collabro, Lucy has first hand experience of what it's like to go from feeling so low to feeling like the impossible is now possible after managing to achieve her dreams and live the life she's always dreamed about.

I think it's extremely difficult to stop bullying altogether as there is always someone who will want to involve themselves in business that's not theirs, so I feel there should be more support provided to help how victims deal with bullying and help motivate and empower them.

So let's get started, we hope this helps you feel like you can achieve your dreams, no matter what a bully says.

Hi Lucy, can you tell me about your experience with bullying when growing up?

Mine was pretty long and drawn out. It started when I was around the age of 7/8 and carried on into my teens, I was subject to mental and physical abuse due to my love for classical singing - it wasn't the norm and my peers found it very difficult to accept as they were brought up to appreciate more mainstream pop and techno music. I failed all but one of my GCSE's because I was so badly bullied I was very rarely in lessons due to hiding in the girls toilets or skipping school in order to get away from the bad people.

How did it impact your self-esteem and motivation in life?

It really took a lot of my confidence away and subsequently made me go into my shell and not wanting to come out. However having said that my motivation only got stronger - I knew my passion for signing and classical music was so strong I was not going to let them take the one thing I loved the most, away from me. It made me work harder to regain my GCSE's and A Levels. I was determined to move away and start a new life - a new me.

I think it's great that in light in all of this, your passion kept you motivated and kept you strong. How else did you cope with it?

I transferred all the pain hate and sorrow into my music, I surrounded myself with things that made me happy - that was singing operatically. Every time I opened my mouth to sing I was completely lost and transported to a different world. I joined a girls choir Cantamus way back when I was 8 and spent 13 years of my life singing as a hobby  and I have now managed to make it a reality.

Apart from your passion of singing to keep you positive and motivated in life, what do you do to increase your happiness and positivity when you're feeling down?

I think about how lucky I am in all of this. There are people in the world who would give anything to have a little bit of what I do. I mean I have a roof over my head, I have a loving family and wonderful friends, I have money, clothes, food and fresh water. That's how I keep positive because I am so grateful to be blessed with such an incredible life and really, I shouldn't have anything to complain about. I make sure I do a lot for charities too, I believe we can all do a lot more than is currently being done today.

I think that is a great mindset to obtain. On the subject of doing more for charities, do you think the media are doing enough to provide support to victims of bullying?

I think it's getting there but we are still a long way from where we should be with it. The Anti-bullying Pro organisation are doing a fantastic job and it's really becoming effective within schools.

Finally, what is your advice to anyone going through bullying right now?

Don't let them win and don't stay silent. Speak out and be heard - remember a lot of  bullying goes on because of the bully's background - they can usually be experiencing a lot of bad things at home. They then target someone that is more likely to back down to them - it gives them the power and strength they feel they need to cope with their life back at home. It's the only way they feel they can channel that negative energy. I'm not making excuses for bullying at all but I believe a lot of what goes on it due to parental up bringing or friendship groups - no one is born with hate - it's a feeling that has developed.

So what I would say to coping with that is surround yourself with supportive people and a hobby you enjoy and are passionate about - let that guide you through the bad times but whatever you do, do not keep bullying a secret - you need to share what is happening in order to receive help.

I just want to thank Lucy for answering these questions! It really means a lot to me and I'm sure you, my readers will love this and feel inspired and motivated to be able to feel like there really is hope and a light at the end of the tunnel...you just have to believe and stay focused on what you love and surround yourself with positivity.

The main reason I started this campaign was to provide a place for people to come and feel safe, get advice, have a chat and feel better about whatever is on your mind, so please do not hesitate to contact me!

If you would like to know a bit more about my campaign, which involves anxiety, bullying, self-esteem, diabetes and many more issues, you can read about it here and if you'd like to get involved, all the information on how you can do that is in that post, or you can just email me if you have any questions!!

Diabetes Series: Turning Your Disability Into An Ability!

Hi readers!

You might have read my previous post about my experience with a Medtronic Insulin Pump and going from injecting 4 times a day to using this pump which requires changing every 2 to 3 days.

Although I talked about how much I prefer it to injecting every day and how much more flexible my diabetes is, everyone has their off days with their medical conditions and that's what I'm going to talk about today and how you can turn your disability into an ability! This is by no means a pity post, it is in fact the complete opposite and my main aim of this post is to help you look at your disability in a different, more positive light!

I mostly experience my little gripes and moans about my diabetes when my pump decides to malfunction, so here's a little bit about what happens:

In my previous post I explain exactly how to change your pump (every 2 to 3 days) but if you don't know what I mean by "changing your pump" I'll briefly explain:

When I talk about changing my pump I don't mean changing the whole pump machine every couple of days, I mean renewing the insulin reservoir. The reservoir is a little tube that holds the insulin inside the pump machine which the pump then dispenses into wire connected to the reservoir that is attached to my stomach, allowing the insulin to flow into me. Each reservoir only holds a certain amount of insulin which is why I need to go through the process of changing it every couple of days! And so, this is where some of the gripes and moans come in:

When I've gone through this process, inserted the cannula (a tiny tube that is embedded in my stomach) and I've carried on with my day and I've just had some food I obviously need to bolus, so when I type in on my pump to bolus, the pump bleeps back at me telling me there is "No Delivery" which means I have to do this process all over again, including re-injecting myself to insert the new cannula!

This has happened quite a lot over the years I've had the pump (6 years) but in the last few weeks (including today!) it has become more frequent. This could and probably is just a fluke but when you're glucose levels rise to an extremely high level and you feel the symptoms of high glucose levels, it's very frustrating and inconvenient. Like I mentioned earlier, this is not a "pity me" post at all, it's the opposite because in the previous post I linked to, I talked about how I try to turn my experience into a positive one and how I don't let it negatively impact my life, so please do have a read of that post and I hope it helps you!

The actual main reason for writing this post is just to let you know that whether you're on injections or a pump, diabetes can be a frustration, again no pity or sympathy here, it's just a fact. Similarly to many other disabilities and medical conditions; they're all an inconvenience, a struggle, a different way of life, a hindrance sometimes and definitely frustrating, however if you let negativity set in permanently then you're fighting a losing battle. Yes, be angered and upset at your medical condition for an hour or so, but try and look on the positive side and realise how lucky you are in other ways. Try to keep focusing on all the great things you have in life and keep reminding yourself of these things.

Yes, your medical condition makes you different, but different is great!! Above all, remember, you are not alone. I've had diabetes for 10 years and I can honestly say it hasn't stopped me from doing anything I want to do (I talk about all the different things I've achieved in my other post! In fact, I've benefited from it in more ways than I've been hindered by it, for example I am now a Type 1 Youth Ambassador for JDRF which I'm extremely happy and excited about and I wouldn't have been able to do this if I wasn't diabetic! See? It's not all bad!

As this is part of my campaign as well as my diabetes series, I'll include some info below on how you can contact me if you'd like to talk about anything, ask me anything or vent about anything - I'm so happy to listen and help! The main reason I started this campaign was to provide a place for people to come and feel safe, get advice, have a chat and feel better about whatever is on your mind, so please do not hesitate to contact me!

Stress Free Essays & Exams - Who Would've Thought It?!

Hey everyone!

Today's post is all about how you can get your school/college/university work done and done efficiently with minimum stress impact. Exams and essays without stress...is it possible? Yep!

We all know the consequences of stress; your immune system decreases, anxiety levels rise, nerves hike and let's be honest - a minimal amount of work actually gets done because you're too busy worrying and stressing over it!

In my own experience, whenever I have an essay, project or exam deadline coming up, I will go through different stages of stress but I have learnt to control it in a roundabout way. First I will go through some stress emotions I'm sure everyone experiences at one point or another:

  1. The initial "when your teacher sets the deadline" stress. You know it's about a month away but you feel like you shouldn't be enjoying what free time you have because it's always at the back of your mind.
  2. When you do your best to forget about the deadline but then a week or so later, it hits you again and you start thinking "I really should get started on this essay/project/exam revision".
  3. When you actually sit down to start it and you find yourself sitting staring at the same blank page 2 hours later and you're putting more pressure on yourself to actually get something started but this pressure is preventing you from actually allowing yourself to write anything because all you can think about it the blank screen in front of you.
  4. A week before the deadline and you've thankfully got something written down, whether it's a first draft or you're nearly ready to make the finishing touches and you finally start to feel a bit calmer about the whole situation and you can see the finish line.
  5. You are now making the finishing touches and you're reading over your essay/revising what you've memorised and you realise you haven't properly answered the question/you can't remember anything.
  6. This is the worst part because it's fight or flight - you either rectify it by making major adjustments and quickly/cram in lots of revision until you feel your brain can't take it anymore or you just give up and think "what will be will be" and hope for the best.
  7. Then there's the after stress of handing it in and waiting for the dreaded result.

Hopefully, this doesn't happen every single time you have an essay/exam but don't worry - you aren't alone!

Now here's some tips I've learnt to stop the stresses above from happening again:
  1. When you get an essay/exam date, spend the first day thinking about what possible options you have, what you could write about and how you plan to do it. Don't write anything down, just think about it!
  2. A couple of days (maximum 3 days) make a plan. Even if it's quite rubbish. Jot down in bullet point form what you might want your first, second, third, fourth etc., paragraph to include. If it's for an exam: write what you need to know, how long you're going to need on each section (be realistic - this is why you've started early. Don't give yourself 2 hours for one topic, try and give yourself at least a day and a half/ 2 days on each section/topic). Writing plans, as geeky as it may seem, calm me down a lot. With a plan, I've got everything written down that I need to know and remember, so when you see it actually on paper I feel more at ease knowing I have some sort of plan. I always freak out when I don't have a plan because I think "what if I've forgotten something important", but having it written down stops you from making that mistake!
  3. My biggest and best tip for you is this: Unless you really don't care much about your essays/projects/exams, you aren't going to not do it. At the end of the day, you will complete your essay, you will go into your exam knowing at least something. So whilst you're stressing now and thinking "I'm never going to get this done!" trust yourself enough to know that you aren't going to go in unprepared for it!

I hope this was helpful to those who are like me and go through all of these steps on a regular basis but I always try to remind myself of the tips I've listed above to stop me from stressing so much!

Let me know if this was helpful to you & if you also stress as much as I do when I get deadlines!

Thank you for reading!

Emily May: My Experience With Anxiety & Panic Attacks

Hi Emily! Thank you so much for participating in this interview.

Emily and I have spoke about her experiences with anxiety and panic attacks and I feel that Emily's story will be a great read to anyone who is going through anxiety and suffering from panic attacks, therefore we've decided the best way to explain is by conducting an interview!

So Emily, could you tell me when you realised you suffered from anxiety and if there was a specific trigger that set it all off?

Thanks Chloe! I really hope that my interview will help others to realise that they are not alone!
It actually took me quite a long time to realise that I was suffering from anxiety, I'd had a few panic attacks without really knowing what was happening to me- I thought I had heart problems! I didn’t realise until it had become so bad that I could barely leave the house- I was just terrified of everything, from getting on the bus to walking near roads. My first two panic attacks were on the train, and it was knowing that I couldn’t get off the train that triggered the attack- since then I have struggled with public transport especially the Tube!

You've told me that you left school at the age of 17 due to the impact anxiety and depression was having on your life. Could you run me through this and what were your thoughts and feelings about having to put your anxiety before your education and future career dreams?

My school was quite far away from where I lived, around 45 minutes, and getting on a packed train at rush hour was horrible for me. Apart from that, I felt anxious speaking in front of other people, which was not helped by my awful English teacher, who forced me to speak in front of the class even though I was so nervous I was crying. It was one of the most embarrassing things that has ever happened to me! At the time it felt horrible to leave school, all my friends were applying to University and I was getting left behind.

How did it affect your daily life?

It was really embarrassing being a ‘dropout’ when all my friends were getting good jobs or going to Uni, but it turned out that leaving school was a big help for me, I got a job in a bar, which I loved, as I felt really safe and comfortable there as well having some money. This really helped me to gain some independence, make new friends, and take control of my life.

Did you seek any help?

I went to the doctor who recommended counselling, which I tried and hated. I couldn’t talk to the counsellor as I felt that she didn’t really understand me, so I never went back to that… I went back to the doctor who prescribed me some medicine for the anxiety, which has helped me so much. I would definately recommend asking for help, my doctor was so kind and understanding.

When did you see the light at the end of the tunnel and was there anything that made you feel like there was hope for you to lead a more “normal” life in the future?

I had saved up some money, and decided to go travelling, alone!! It was one of the scariest things I have ever done in my life, but also the best! I pushed myself to my limits, and it felt so good. I never had to worry about being embarrassed or anxious, as I didn’t know anyone, and I knew that if I panicked or felt uncomfortable I could just leave the situation at any time. It was complete freedom!

How are you coping with your anxiety at present?

When I first moved back to London I struggled a bit and had a few panic attacks, I think it’s the fact that it’s so busy that gets to me, but I seem to be coping quite well at the moment. This is mainly because I have told everyone at my new job about my anxiety and they have been so sweet and understanding about it. They know that certain things make me nervous, so I don’t have to do anything I don’t feel comfortable with. I have also finally enrolled in University to study Interior Design, which has given me a massive confidence boost, I feel as though I’m back in control of my life, and finally doing what I actually want to do! I still take medication for the panic attacks, but I haven’t had one for a while, so hopefully I’m on the right track now.

Do you think the media do enough to provide support for people who are going through these issues or do you think more could be done?

So much more needs to be done! I think it’s terrible that Anxiety and depression is still such a taboo- no one want’s to talk about it as it makes people uncomfortable. I think your campaign is so important Chloe, it let’s people know they’re not alone, and that anxiety and depression are actually quite common.

Thank you, Emily! I hope it helps whoever needs help! Do you have any advice or tips for anyone who is going through now what you have been through?

Yes I do. First of all, speak to your doctor- that is what they are there for, to help you! Talk about it openly with your friends and family, if they are good friends they will support you and try to help- It’s much harder trying to hide it from everyone. Change your lifestyle- I eat much healthier now, as well as taking vitamins, and I try to exercise when I can. This was advice from my doctor and I didn’t think it would help, but it really has!

Please let me know if you have any questions or advice, I’m always happy to talk!

Anxiety Interview with Kriss from Realm Of Makeup!

anxiety

  1. Hi Kriss! Can you tell me a bit about yourself?

My name is Kriss, or Christine! I'm an Irish makeup artist, beauty vlogger and beauty blogger!
  1. Awesome! What do you blog about?

I blog about all things makeup! I started my blog to go along with my makeup YouTube channel. So I'm still getting the hang of blogging but I'm loving the journey! I'm also going to be incorporating more 'other beauty' stuff (like fashion, nails, hair, skincare etc) than I would on YouTube. It's exciting times!
  1. That's great, I guess to keep up with blogging, vlogging and even your job, you'll need to be constantly inspired! What inspires you in life?

So much! In everyday life, I'm inspired by creativity (like art, makeup and style), individuality (like someone rocking an outfit I wouldn't have the confidence to wear), organisation (I love organisation blogs and Pinterest posts), and hard work (e.g. seeing someone's dedication and success). On a bigger scale, I'm inspired and moved by positivity (optimistic or helpful people), confidence (staying true to yourself or standing up for yourself), nature (a breathtaking scenery always makes me feel calm), music (e.g. beautiful lyrics or a powerful beat) and love (the most beautiful thing in the world!).
  1. What keeps you motivated?

I am motivated in my makeup artistry and online work by 1) my passion for makeup and 2) other artists/vloggers/bloggers. I am motivated in life by 'doing me' - by this I mean doing what makes me happy, doing what makes me proud of myself and doing what is good for me. On a real note, not that money is everything, but if I'm going to be honest, it is a big motivation. Now that I am at a stage of my life where I have to make sure I can pay my bills and make rent, it does give me a kick to get up off my ass and earn it! And, not gonna lie I get motivation from little quotes or sayings I see on Instagram or Pinterest! I use greatday.com as my internet homepage to give me a positive message each day when I open up my browser :-)
  1. That's awesome, I love quotes and I'm Pinterest obsessed! What is your proudest achievement either in life or the blogging world?

I'm proud of myself for finally doing YouTube and blogging, as I have wanted to for years and years! I'm also super proud that I went and got my makeup qualifications for myself and started my own freelancing business.
  1. That's an incredible achievement! Now I understand you suffer from anxiety, which must be difficult to control with everything you've got going on! Can you tell me what your experience is with anxiety?

Well my 'main' experience is my social anxiety. I have always been shy and an introvert, but at times it is extremely difficult for me to put myself into certain situations and to interact with others. I also get anxious about things like elevators and alarms but not to the same degree.
  1. How has it changed your life?

Massively. Simply speaking can be a huge deal for me. Whether I find myself having to make small talk, or having a question to ask, or wanting to join in on a conversation, I tend to overthink, to the point that my heart is pounding and I just can't go through with it. It is also extremely difficult for me to put myself into situations where I have to do these things or where I won't know anyone. Having this anxiety throughout everyday life is difficult, especially when others don't understand what's going on inside for you. It is also extremely frustrating to have the desire to do something, yet you are holding yourself back.
  1. How are you coping with it?

Because I know that it stems from irrational thoughts I try to challenge it at times. Making little steps here, and big leaps there show me that I can actually do these things. In fact, I will be attending a bloggers meetup very soon and I'm sooo nervous about it! When I first heard about it I was really excited because I don't know anyone else personally in the blogging world, and it would be so amazing to meet people who are! Now as it is nearing, I did have the thought of pulling out, but I know I would regret it. I just have to hold on to that excitement and remind myself that I will enjoy it and I will be proud of myself for going.
  1. Do you feel like the media are doing enough to help people who suffer from anxiety?

No I don't actually, and I hadn't really thought about that until now. I have to say Chloe, I really admire and appreciate what you are doing here! Anxiety is a very common issue. We all experience some level of it, yet most people don't want to admit to it. Before now, the only people I had really heard speaking about it on a public platform have been YouTubers that I watch. Zoe of Zoella, Sam of Pixiwoo and Sinead of TheMakeupChair (among others) have all made videos on the subject.
  1. Thank you, Kriss, I really appreciate that! What are your top tips for anyone living with anxiety?

The quote/idea that helps me challenge mey anxiety is "Make the leap and build your wings as you fall." In other words, do it now and think later! Without thinking, ask that question, sign up for that class, go to that party! The first time I found myself using this idea was when I signed up for a group. I knew this group would be beneficial for my future career but I would be signing up alone. I was going through a really rough time in my life, and I came to the point where I just held my hands up and said "Ok life, let's do this - whats the worst that can happen!" It was so unlike me and I was so proud of myself for finally taking a stand against my own anxiety. I signed up and reminded myself that no matter what happened next, I would survive. I was still nervous and self conscious, but as I got through it, I relaxed and found that it was easier than I thought, and well worth it.

Now in everyday life I try to go for little things without thinking. I had to work myself up recently to walk into a room to ask someone something. I was getting very stressed out, and had to calm myself and remind myself that there was nothing to be afraid of. I eventually stood outside the door and said to myself "1,2,3!" and gave all the power of the decision to my body - my arm reached up and my hand opened the door, without giving my brain a chance to butt in and ruin it with overthinking! Before I knew it, it was all over and I could see how silly I was being before. I use this "1,2,3!" in my head all the time and let me mouth speak whatever I want to say, or my feet take me wherever I want to go without letting that silly voice in my head take over. Sometimes this in itself is a little difficult so I just take things one step at a time. That might be just focussing on walking myself to the door, then just on opening the door, then on walking inside etc etc.

Besides these practical tips, having someone you can talk about it to definitely helps. Sometimes just being able to say things out loud is a huge relief.

I think that it is also important to remember that you are not strange for feeling the way you do. You are not alone, you are not awkward, you are not weird. You are human...and as a human you have the power to persevere through this anxiety you feel, and to conquer it. So accept that this is ok, but do not accept this as what you are stuck with.

Thank you so much, Kriss for your inspiring and honest answers! I really enjoyed interviewing you and I'm sure every reader will appreciate your words of wisdom and experiences you've been through and realise anxiety isn't just a "one off" but a constant battle, but together I'm sure we'll all be able to change and improve the way we deal with anxiety in the future!

Interview on bullying, body confidence, self-esteem, depression and anxiety with Louise.

Hi Louise! Thank you for taking part my project by letting me interview you! Tell me a bit about yourself?

I'm a total bunting addict who loves 90's pop punk and graphic novels. If you ever needed to find me, I'd be in a cinema, sorting through vintage stores, listening to my record collection or playing a game or two on the Playstation. I'd like to say I'm extroverted but I'm not - I love my small group of friends and I find I'm happier this way. What else... oh yeah, I blog.

What do you blog about?

I blog about adventures I go on with my friends and fiance, Green Ranger, recipes I try and absolutely love, wish-lists for clothes, beauty and stationery among other things, random opinion/inspiration pieces that have helped me through and blogs about topics I find generally quite interesting and hope my lovely readers will too!

What inspires you in life?

In all honesty, other people. With the influx of social media in everyone's lives, it's now so much easier to see the 'good' and the inspiring stuff that people are doing all over the world. It shows that the world doesn't have to be this dark, depressing place that the news always paints it as. I think, for me, Tumblr and Instagram showcase this really well with the communities on there - full-blown creative minded people with stories to tell. What's not to be inspired by. I guess other things that inspire me would be magazines like Company and Glamour, other wonderful bloggers like Becky Bedbug and paperbagblog, specific indie films like '500 Days of Summer' or 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' and music, my favourites are Foos, Coldplay, Beatles and probably, Kings of Leon at the moment.

Social media definitely provides great opportunities to be influential and promote a positive community! What keeps you motivated?

When dealing with OCD, you tend to be fairly motivated, so I've not really struggled in this department, apart from when I was suffering with depression. It was a toughie as OCD meant I HAD to do all these things at the right time and all the time or I'd get major panic attacks but the other half of me just could not be bothered, I couldn't get out of bed, let alone do anything else! Luckily, I had special friends who saw me through and dragged me out when I needed it, talking about past issues with my psychologist definitely helped. Having someone who could say to me that what I was thinking, whether that be 'I'm fat - so why should anyone love me?' to 'What's the point?' was okay and talk it over rationally with me really helped.

I can definitely relate with OCD! It's a real time consumer as well! What is your proudest achievement either in life or the blogging world?

In the blogging world, it would have to be going to the #LDNBloggersTea in Kensington about a month ago. It was SO nerve-wracking, having to talk to brand new people, going alone and having to make conversation was so anxiety-inducing I nearly didn't make it. It took the kind words of my fiance to calm me down, tell me that I looked fine and talk me into going. I still wandered around Kensington Gardens to calm myself down before venturing anywhere near the venue! Non-blogging world, it'd have to be overcoming anorexia, I say overcoming but I still have the thoughts that accompany the disorder. I'm glad to say that I now eat three meals a day and it is under control from a physical sense. This took literally everything I had and I wouldn't be here without my family and close friends who supported me.

What is your experience with bullying, body confidence, self-esteem, depression and anxiety?

When I was at school, I was always bullied for being a bit of a porker. I was admittedly obese as a child but I didn't deserve the daily ridiculing from the other children. Nonetheless, I compartmentalised it and got on with my day-to-day, I became very good at putting on a front - 'the fat, bubbly girl'. But inside I was hurting and my self-esteem was practically non-existent.

I can't remember what it was exactly that changed, it may have been the death of my nan (she was the closest thing to me in my world) but I just gradually ate less and less to the point where I was banned from the gym and PE as they saw I had 'issues', and I was counting a grain of rice as dinner - nothing else, not even water for fear of calorie intake.

I eventually got hospitalised and decided I'd rather die before eat anything. I had lost all self-worth all without anyone really recognising bar the odd guy on the playground who'd then ridicule me for having an eating disorder. Being thin meant that people talked to me like an 'average' human girl in most instances, who could be attractive and interesting, without being thin I was nothing. It's fair to say that it gave me a degree of control over my own life when a lot was changing, it masked just how depressed and anxious I was about my life and my future.

How has it changed your life?

Suffering with the above changed my life immensely, I went from being an outwardly 'happy' child who didn't think on anything bar the next S Club 7 song to being the most cynical and downright depressing person you'd ever meet who could burst into tears at any opportunity. I'm glad to say that I have stabilised now, in my younger adult years, but I still walk down the street and wonder who and why is staring, I still 'hate' the way I look and question why it is that people would even want to talk to me. These are just a few things that are coped with on a day-to-day business. And that is exactly what it is, a day-to-day business. You can't plan for being sad one day and happy the next - it doesn't work like that.

How are you coping with it?

Distraction. Seeing a psychologist is out of the question, I have a full-time job to maintain and appointments don't exactly cater for this. So I use good, old distraction techniques. I tried the self-soothing exercises but these never helped me, that negative voice in my head always overcame it but listening to music, watching a film or playing a game I like takes me away into a world where I'm not always anxious and I'm not always putting myself down. It gives me a break from the monotony of negativity.

Do you feel like the media are doing enough to help people who suffer from bullying, body confidence, self-esteem, depression and anxiety?

I think compared to when I was a kid/teen, there has been a lot of awareness campaigns about the above, acknowledging that it is a problem BUT there simply isn't the actual support. Funding has been cut in all the wrong places and people like me are being affected everywhere I turn. The problem is that these problems are inherent within out society and until that changes then these issues will always be just that, issues. The media need to change the perception of these illnesses and I think they're only a small percentage of the way there. That is not to say that it won't improve.

What are your top tips for anyone living with bullying, body confidence, self-esteem, depression and anxiety?

As difficult as it may be, you need to be true to yourself and who you are and keep your head held high no matter what because there is always light at the end of that dark tunnel. Sod what anyone else has to say and ignore it, they're just insecure about themselves and projecting this onto you as a means of coping - you don't have to listen nor take it. Surround yourself with supportive people and things you love too, these will inevitably guide you through on the crappiest of days - they are your rocks.
