CLINIQUE BONUS TIME GIFT SET

Hi everyone!

I was lucky enough to receive a gift bundle from Clinique called Clinique Bonus Time which included a handful of amazing skincare goodies and a couple of makeup items! This gift bundle could not have come at a better time as recently my skin has been extremely under the weather due to stress! I've also been feeling my face needs a good detox from all the makeup build up over time. Even though I take good care of my skin, sometimes you need to give it an extra bit of attention to get it in good shape!

When I opened the package, I was amazed as all the little parcels were wrapped up in a pretty tissue inside a beautiful makeup bag which made me so happy as I am literally on the hunt for a cute little makeup bag to take out with my in the day.

The skincare items out of this gift bundle are Clinique Take The Day Off makeup remover, Clinique 7 Day Scrub and the Superdefense SPF 20 Daily Moisturiser!

The first item I looked at was the Clinique Take The Day Off eye makeup and lipstick remover. I loved this as firstly, it has a child-lock cap which is great if you have children but if you don't, like myself, it's still a great bonus as if you keep all your skincare items together in a pouch or drawer, you don't have to worry about it leaking or anything like that! I popped the tiniest amount of this on a cotton pad and it literally took off all of my eye makeup. I couldn't believe that such a small amount would actually take off all of my eye makeup in practically one sweep!

The next item is the Clinique 7 Day Scrub Cream - rinse off formula. This is what I got most excited about I think, as I said, my skin has been suffering the past few weeks as well as feeling like I desperately need a detox for my face to get rid of all the build up of makeup you think you've taken off, but really haven't! I dampened my skin a little and massaged this product all over my face, concentrating around my T-Zone. I kept adding more and more because it just felt so good and felt like it was really getting deep into my skin and cleaning it thoroughly. When I was ready to wipe it off, I took a cotton pad, wet it and wiped it all off. To get the extra bit off, I rinsed my face with warm but not boiling water. I can't express enough how clean my skin felt after rinsing this off.

The next product worked wonders in conjunction with the exfoliator. The Clinique Superdefense SPF 20 - daily defense moisturiser was calming, cool and super soft on my freshly exfoliated face. I love this product because it's also got an SPF of 20 which is great because with the summer just around the corner, you know your face will be protected. Also, the moisturiser is an amazing base to use under your makeup, whether you apply a primer after or not!

A huge plus for these three items is that they're all allergy tested and 100% fragrance free!

The next item is the Clinique High Impact Mascara in black. The super long wand reached all of my eye lashes in one application which is so handy because it allows for a speedy but accurate application when you're in a rush! This mascara is really nice if you'd like more of a natural eye look but you can build up with this one if you want a more dramatic look!

Then we have the eye shadow called All About Shadow Duo in the shade Strawberry Fudge 013. This has such amazing but subtle pigment. You don't need a lot but when you apply it, it's soft and smokey without it looking heavy which is a must for the summer months!

The last item is the Clinique Chubby Stick Intense - Moisturising lip colour balm in 05 Plushest Punch. This chubby stick is super moisturising, leaving a satin effect but if you blot it, you'll obviously get a matte effect so you get best of both worlds! The colour I received was a strawberry colour which is so pretty for the summer and the lasting power is immense!

Adlet's New Brand Promotion Service & Sweet Cecily's Elderflower & Almond Hand Cream

Hi everyone!

Today's post is a review on a wonderful hand cream I was sent through Adlet's new Brand Product Review service.

If you haven't heard of Adlet, I have a few posts all about it linked here and here. Adlet offers bloggers and brands to collaborate by brands purchasing ad spaces on blogs, but a new service Adlet has introduced furthers the ability for bloggers and brands to collaborate. This service allows brands to publish products on Adlet's site for bloggers to pitch to review. So if you're a blogger, make sure you're signed up to Adlet (all free!) and you can start working with brands right away, whether it's by selling ad spaces or reviewing products! Here's a little post on the Adlet blog on how this new service works with a step-by-step guide.

Now, onto the product!

hand cream

This Sweet Cecily's Elderflower & Almond hand cream is so perfect for me, it's unreal! I've got very dry hands and extreme dry patches around the knuckles at times... one of those times being now. This cream soothes the dryness with its silky smooth formula and I am in love with the scent of this hand cream! I used it in the office last week and kept opening it every now and again to apply the hand cream just so I could smell the divine scent (and getting silky smooth hands into the bargain!) I can only describe the scent as what it's like when you walk into a candle shop... utter bliss! Also, all of their products are not tested on animals and are free from parabens which is amazing!

I highly recommend this hand cream and I'd also recommend checking out their site because it's super unique and quirky!

Don't forget to check out Adlet's new service before you go, it's definitely worth it!

REVIEW: SIGMA F80 - FLAT KABUKI BRUSH

Sigma F80

Hey everyone!

So since I've been away from blogging this past month, I've treated myself to a couple of new things as it was also my 22nd birthday!

I'm not one for fancy or expensive makeup brushes...I like to use my beauty blender sponges (which I still use religiously) for foundation and cream bronzer, then a stippling brush for powder and highlight and that's it. I do own the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and Powder Brush which I use on occasions, but not on a daily basis.

However, like I said, I use one beauty blender for foundation and one for bronzing/contour and the one I use for bronzing/contour was getting old. The ones I use are by Cosmopolitan but I can't find them anywhere anymore so if you know where I can get them, please let me know! So I thought I'd treat myself to a new bronzing/contour applicator/tool and fancied a change, so I did a bit of research and came across the Sigma F80 which is the Flat Kabuki brush. I'd heard of this one before but for £18/£19 I always kept well away as I didn't know if it would be something that would work for me or not.

Anyway, I decided to give it a go and I absolutely love it. It has such dense bristles and it has a flat top so it glides on foundation as well as bronzing cream and leaves a full coverage finish, which is my favourite as it covers all the redness I have! Of course, with an extra bit of buffing, it'll leave you with more of a medium coverage, if that's something you prefer!

Sigma F80 Flat Kabuki

It works fantastically as a contour brush if you dab a bit of your bronzing cream onto your cheekbones and blend it in with the brush. My cousin recently bought me lots of Bourjois products for my birthday (as Bourjois is my holy grail brand) and one of the products she bought me was the Bronzing Primer. I'll be doing a review on this tomorrow but it works so, so well with this brush!

Anyway, I'll leave it there because I'll start rambling but I hope that if you're looking for a new brush that'll do just about anything, you might try this one and I hope you love it as much as I do!

Thank you for reading and take care!

SUPER QUICK UPDATE

Hi everyone!

This is just a really super quick post just to update you on what's going on and why I haven't blogged in a couple of weeks!

I'm in my last couple of weeks of my last year of university, so as you can imagine, things are pretty hectic! My dissertation is due in this week and I have more essays due the week after so I'm really trying to put 100% into these last few weeks!

I have about 15 posts all in my drafts begging me to post them, however my OCD won't let me post them until they are perfect and checked over a million times - I don't just want to upload half-hearted posts, I like them to be thorough!

As for the Twitter chat which I posted about last month, that will be starting as soon as my work has been handed in but I'll give you all a heads up when the exact date has been decided! I'm so excited about it because of the reaction and feedback I've had from the idea, so I'm so glad people are keen for it!

Anyways, I probably won't post until I've finished but it won't be too much longer now... If I can get an hour to perfect at least one post, I'll definitely post it because I'm missing blogging so, so much!

I'll leave it at that for now but I hope you're all doing well and I hope your essays and exams (if you have them) aren't stressing you out too much!

Speak soon, guys!

Take Back What's Yours Interview with Chichi - Low Self-esteem & Confidence!

Low self-esteem and confidence

Hey everyone!

So, everyone seemed to really like the Take Back What's Yours interviews on the blog but I haven't posted one recently! I've got so many already conducted and in my drafts ready to post so I'm happy to say they're back and I know everyone who is going through some of the topics discussed will really find them helpful, motivational and inspiring so I cannot wait to post them all!

Today's interview is with Chichi who has an amazing blog which covers a whole range of topics from fashion and beauty, to travel and lifestyle! I've included her links at the bottom so please say hi to her and check out her links!

Let's get into the interview!

Hi Chichi, tell me a bit about yourself!

I am 22 years old, I'm from London and I am a full-time university student. In my spare time I write for a few blogs and online magazines, and I run my own blog.

What do you blog about?

My blog is called Trends, Style & Features (I'm in the process of changing the name to Trends, Comment & Style.)  It's about fashion, lifestyle and beauty trends.  I am trying to branch out into posting about other topics, such as my opinions and comments on current affairs, society and politics.

What inspires you in life?

I feel inspired by people who have been able to achieve all the things they wanted to achieve in life, and I feel inspired by people – friends, bloggers, actresses, singers, authors, etc – who have overcome adversity and are now able to achieve what they want.  If shows me that regardless of whatever one's been through in life, you can overcome it and go on to live a great life and (realistically) achieve what you want.

What keeps you motivated?

My goals and ambitions.  From a young age I've always had goals and ambitions and these keep me motivated and keep me going.  I tend to throw myself into things and I work really hard.

What is your proudest achievement either in life or the blogging world?

In life so far, I'd say getting into university despite the obstacles standing in the way and moving away for it.  I feel as though moving away for university had really changed me for the better and has helped to aid me in personal development.  Even though I have had some bad moments I am so glad I came to university. I am enjoying my experience here and I will be so sad when it ends!

In the blogging world, I can't think of anything spectacular!  However I would say I'm so glad I started blogging (I started my blog in November 2013 and now I blog regularly) and having a blog has helped me to create a portfolio and get opportunities in writing for other blogs and magazines.  I hope to gain some more opportunities through my blog.

What is your experience with self-esteem?

From a very young ago I had no self-esteem. As a child I was quite timid and sensitive anyway, but there were certain events in my childhood that occurred and these events had an extremely detrimental effect on myself, my life and my well-being. I was constantly judged, dehumanised and degraded. People would always go out of their way to put me down and make me feel bad about myself. I have even experienced this since moving away to university. Unfortunately when people put you down you start to believe in all the negative stuff. I always felt a massive sense of misery, and I felt as though my whole life would be total doom and gloom. At times I thought I had a bleak future.

I spent my childhood lacking in confidence. I could never feel good about myself. I completely loathed myself. I spent my childhood feel hopeless and worthless. I always felt a sense of learned helplessness, weakness and lack of control. I always felt guilty and full of shame. I had an inferiority complex and I thought I was a massive failure. I thought that if people treated me badly then it was all my fault.

I always had a very negative image of myself and a lot of negative thoughts, and that's pretty much how I lived my life for the first 19-20 years or so.

How has it changed and impacted your life?

At times I found I had self-destructive tendencies. Also, I struggled to be assertive and confident, and this has affected a lot of aspects of my life, such as how I relate to people and completing simple tasks such as answering the phone. Assertiveness was something I had always struggled with (even at university) because even though I believe in sticking up for yourself I realised that a lot of people hated that about me, so sometimes it's 'easier' to be passive and go along with things so you don't 'rock the boat,' but that's not like me because naturally I am a defensive person.

I ended up having little to no self-esteem because of a lot of negative experience in childhood so I find I cannot trust people, I am quite distant sometimes and I don't like to let my guard down because I worry people will make assumptions and try to take advantage.

When did you realise your low self-esteem was impacting your life and how did you feel about it? Was there a trigger that set it off?

There wasn't a particular defining moment, but I always knew that something was not right about myself. I'd have moments where things would build up and build up then I'd explode. I would look at myself in the mirror and I just hated myself. My mind was so full of negative thoughts and these thoughts were having a detrimental impact on my mental and physical health. I couldn't bring myself to feel positive and I'd feel so tearful.

Eventually I realised that things had to change, because I knew that if I didn't deal with this then I would continue to suffer in adulthood and I didn't want that. I wanted my life to change and I wanted to change too. I wanted to start having relatively normal experiences and I wanted to start enjoying life but I knew that I couldn't do that with low self-esteem because it would always continue to be a barrier.

How are you coping with it?

I'm coping a lot better now, especially since I had therapy. My mindset is slowly changing. I am (slowly) building up confidence and assertiveness. I don't hate myself anymore and I don't see myself in a negative way. I feel confident and I feel as though I can hold my own in a situation now. I can now do daily tasks like answering the phone or putting in an order at a coffee shop without feeling bad. I find I speak a lot clearly now and I can make face-to-face contact. I try to think positive now. I feel as though I have found the strength to just be myself.

What kind of support did you seek or did you keep it to yourself?

I've had CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). At times I found it a bit unhelpful (a lot of my issues are deep-rooted) but I learned a few techniques on how to recognise negative thinking patterns and how to counteract them.

Do you feel like the media are doing enough to help people who suffer from low self-esteem?

Not really. I feel as though there is a sense of irony in the media and in society in general – there is a massive expectation for people to have high self-esteem and confidence but I don't see anything in the media about how to have higher self-esteem and confidence.

I also think that societal attitudes need to change. I feel as though assertiveness (especially in women) is often seen as a bad thing. In my experience a lot of people hated the fact that I could stand up for myself and stay true to myself and my beliefs and values. I guess some people prefer passiveness, because it is easier to bring someone down to their lowest ebb if they are passive.

Even though I have become a lot more assertive, confident and self-assured I still find that people view these traits as a bad thing, even at university, so I think people's mentality need to change, and society needs to change. Having assertiveness, confidence, the ability to stand-up for yourself and the ability to remain self-assured are not negative traits, and these traits don't make a person 'aggressive'. I think that maybe some people don't like these traits because if a person is assertive then it's a lot harder to keep them 'in their place' if that makes sense. I think we live in a culture where we build people up and bring them down and assertiveness and confidence counteract that sort of behaviour.

What are your top tips for anyone living with low self-esteem?

I used to assume that people with high self-esteem were born with it, but it is not something you're born with, it's something you can learn to have. If you struggle with low self-esteem then I suggest having CBT to help deal with this. Also, I've heard that self-help books and online resources are supposed to be really effective too.

Don't suffer with it, do something about it, because having low self-esteem can really hold you back in life.

Thank you for taking part in this Take Back What's Yours interview, Chichi! I know people who are going through something similar will really appreciate your honesty and advice. I love blogger interviews because it lets readers know they aren't alone or different from feeling a certain way...a lot of people are in the same boat!

TWITTER CHAT FOR BLOGGERS

Twitter chats for bloggers

Hi everyone! I hope you're all well and enjoying the Easter bank holiday!

This post is all about, as you might've guessed, a new Twitter chat for all bloggers

A few months ago, when introducing the new part of #TakeBackWhatsYours campaign, I decided it would be so much fun to start a new Twitter chat for it. It's another way for us all to connect, chat and share experiences and generally help us all feel great, empowered and motivated which is the main message of my campaign. I've hosted Twitter chats in the past & really enjoyed it, so I thought to myself, why not start one for #TakeBackWhatsYours?

Some topics which will be covered each week are as follows;
  • Self-esteem and low confidence
  • Setting goals and learning how to achieve them
  • Turning dreams into reality
  • Taking back your life & gaining control
  • Anxiety
  • Motivation
  • Diabetes & other medical problems
  • Health, fitness & food
  • School/University/Careers
  • Blogging, blog tips, SEO, traffic, engagement, events, working with brands
  • Beauty/fashion/lifestyle/interior/food/travel/books/tv/films

I would love for you to also tweet me topic requests to get us going and for us to have a good few weeks of chat topics lined up so we all know what's going on and what to expect!

The hashtag will be '#TBWY' instead of #TakeBackWhatsYours (for character restrictions) and the Twitter account questions will be asked from @TBWYCampaign

I'm still a little bit unsure of what day to definitely hold the chat because there are quite a few that go on and I want to make sure it fits in best around the other chats! Please tweet me day and time suggestions and I'll decide for sure ASAP - I was thinking possibly a Friday/Saturday/Sunday evening around 9pm! I will update you all as soon as I have set a day for sure so keep an eye on @ChloesConcept, @TBWYCampaign and here because I'll be posting about it on all three!

I love Twitter chats but I want this one to be slightly different. For example, at the beginning of the chat, the first question I might ask could be for you all to tweet a picture of your favourite quote, or of a quote you're loving at the moment. This will be just to kick things off and get everyone feeling hopeful, motivated and inspired!

If you'd be interested in "tuning in" for this #TBWY chat, please let me know so I know how many would be keen for this and I'll get to work straight away as I'm really excited to get this going!

GROWING LONG AND HEALTHY HAIR

This post has three great tips on products which promote hair growth and how you can get healthy hair in the matter of weeks!

As you might know, I love a good hair care post. I've done many current hair care routines and I've tried every product under the sun to help turn my hair from a damaged and brittle wreck into healthy and long, like mine used to be about 18 months ago. Why did it turn into a damaged and brittle wreck? I won't go into detail (check my other hair posts which explains more!) but it was because I used heat on my hair every day without heat protection AND I used extensions for volume. It wrecked my hair so much that it completely ripped out my hair from the roots in some places (luckily not noticeable but nevertheless, it left me regretting the day I ever started using extensions or extensive heat use).

So I've got three of my current top products for boosting hair growth whilst replenishing your dry and damaged locks. I have to say, my hair has never felt healthier now that I've been using these products and I've noticed a huge amount of hair growth on the area of my scalp in which the extensions ripped out.

We've all heard of Alpecin, right? Their shampoo is one of my absolute favourites for stimulating the hair follicles and I always notice hair growth when using the shampoo everytime I wash my hair (after a couple of weeks obviously! Not in a Rapunzel kind of way!)

So when I went to buy another bottle of the shampoo, I decided to pick up the Alpecin Caffeine Liquid Hair Energizer (£7.49). It's like a hair tonic and it's the same texture as water, so it just feels like you're pouring water on your scalp. I really should have taken a picture without the lid on so you could see the nozzle but my camera was running out of battery and I had to quickly take the pictures before it died as I've currently "misplaced" (lost) the charger. Basically it is like a nozzle which lets you directly apply the product to your scalp. I then turn my head upside down and massage my scalp just to help the process!

Growing long and healthy hair

The next product is for turning your dry and damaged locks (which look all splitty at the end) into soft, glossy and repaired strands and it's the OGX Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Penetrating OilI've tried and tested countless oils, the majority with some form of argan oil ingredient in them but all to no avail. I don't particularly like spray ones (even though I've tried those too) because they don't seem to be very thick in consistency and if you've got badly damaged hair, you'll need a thicker consistency. I've tried pouring out ones (I'm sure there's a better name for that but I've got my Saturday brain on), and they aren't thick enough either but this one is just right. It's thick (but not unmanageable!) and it's super easy to apply and it also doesn't dry into your hair straight away (no matter how dry your hair is), which I love because it sits on my hair for awhile without immediately drying in and making you feel like you've got to apply more!

Growing long and healthy hair

Finally, we have the miracle of all three. Castor Oil. Yep, this is for sure a miracle. Remember earlier when I said I noticed a huge amount of hair regrowth in the area the extensions pulled out? That is down to this bottle of goodness. Beware, it's difficult to work with, it's thick, sticky and smells a bit odd but it's definitely worth it for the results. I have a little trick to make it a bit more manageable and to make it smell a bit nicer...mix it with a little bit of the oil I mentioned previously and you've got a great balance! I've noticed a good inch and a bit growth in the area the extensions yanked out. You can also use this on eyelashes and your eyebrows if you wanted to! I got this from Holland and Barrett for £9 odd but I think you can get it cheaper on the internet!

Growing long and healthy hair

There we have it! My 3 miracle products to get that swoosh-worthy hair!

What products do you find helpful to promote hair growth and length?
